Social Media Statistics You Need To Know [2020]

Updated: Apr 24, 2020

Today, there are no reasons as to why you shouldn’t be present on social media, whether it’s your company or personal brand. Social media platforms allow you to position your brand and target your audience for free. The price of paid advertising is also very low compared to other media.

But, which social platforms should you choose? Or should you be on all of them?

Well, it depends on which stage your company is in, who your target audience is, which industry you’re in, what resources you have available and what your budget is.

General guidelines are:

Start-up: 1-2 social media platforms

Medium to large business: 2-3 social media platforms

Enterprise: 3-6 platforms

It is recommended to budget 10-15 percent of your revenue for marketing. But again, these are only recommendations, not rules.

Remember, these are only guidelines. I, for example, am present on nine social media platforms. But then again, social media marketing is part of my job. And, in order to excel in it and get results, I need to be present on most of the platforms. Every. Day.

Below I’ve attached a PDF of some definitions and statistics on the nine most popular social media platforms. Just to give you an idea of where to start or expand.

It includes some general numbers and facts, as well as the different demographics for each platform.

However, I want to remind you that social media platforms change, and so does consumer behavior. It is therefore necessary to do research on the different statistics on a regular basis to stay updated on current events and trends on social media platforms. Let me know if you have questions.

The PDF is free, please download and share it if you feel like it. I am not gonna ask you for your personal information or anything. Enjoy your read!
